A Norfolk zoo has announced the death of one of its beloved animals.
Sumatran tiger Dua, who lived at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens near Great Yarmouth, was put to sleep after showing signs of health changes typical of a geriatric cat.
A spokesman for the zoo said: "In the last few days her health deteriorated, and the decision was made to put her to sleep in the interest of her welfare.
"This was incredibly difficult, but it was the right decision for Dua.
"The team at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens is profoundly saddened by this loss. Dua was more than just an animal; she was a cherished member of our family.
"Her spirit and distinctive behaviours forged deep connections with everyone who had the privilege of caring for her."
The 19-year-old Sumatran tiger, was an integral part of Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens since 2005, capturing the hearts of staff and visitors alike.
Scott Bird, zoological director at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens said: "Dua's passing leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts and in the exhibits she called home.
"She was not only a magnificent tiger but also an ambassador for her species, inspiring countless visitors to appreciate and support tiger conservation efforts.
"We will forever remember her with gratitude and love. She was a favourite with many visitors so this will be an incredibly sad loss for all that knew her."
