A speed survey will take place on a 'dangerous' stretch of the A143 following concerns from residents.

The section of Beccles Road from Belton to Fritton has seen calls for a speed reduction following a number of crashes.

Last month, two people suffered injuries in a two-car collision on the road.

And last May, a woman in her 70s died after a crash near Cherry Lane Garden Centre.

Carl Annison, county councillor for the Lothingland Division, said: “I have continually been contacted by councillors, parish councils and road users with concerns regarding this very dangerous section of highway.

"With recent accidents in this location, it's absolutely my top priority to do all I can as county councillor for Lothingland," he added.

In December, Mr Annison met with Brandon Lewis MP to discuss the matter, and since then they have lobbied the county council to look at all aspects of the highway, he said.

Some issues have already been completed, including hedge-cutting, drainage issues and white lining.

Mr Annison said a speed survey will be conducted in the next few months.

"The information collected will hopefully support us in getting a speed reduction in this location following a TRO (traffic regulation order) being implemented," he said.

"In the coming months I will keep residents updated with any developments, but I can reassure all road users and concerned residents I’m continuing to do all I can to improve this section of highway."

Last May, a grey Vauxhall Mokka collided with a blue Mercedes C-Class which was towing a trailer containing a Range Rover.

A woman in her 70s, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall Mokka, died.

Three others who were in the Mokka were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
