A video made by children about the perils of parking outside their school has already been shared thousands of times.

The clip was made by two pupils at Hopton C of E Primary Academy after concerns were raised by parents, residents and staff about parking outside the school during drop-off and pick-up times.

Sophie Howard, 11, who is in Year 6, and Flo Scott, 10, in Year 5, created the video to share their knowledge of road safety.

The clip - which can be watched on the school's Facebook page - has spread quickly across social media platforms, being shared by thousands of users in less than 24 hours.

Headteacher Kellie Egleton said: "We are incredibly proud of the courageous advocacy shown by our pupils who have demonstrated that they are true agents of change. 

"We are delighted that the whole community is working together on this issue to help keep everyone safe.”

She said the school between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft had become "increasingly concerned" about the safety of pupils and the needs of local residents following a number of fears raised by parents, residents, staff and governors about parking outside the building.

The school then presented concerns to local MP Sir Brandon Lewis who brought the matter to the local police and county council.

The school has also held meetings with the police and attended the Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel, which unanimously agreed to prioritise the issue for the next three months.

This means there will be increased police patrols in the area for the foreseeable future.

The video came about after pupils at the school asked how they could help to ensure they are safe while getting to and from school - and they decided to make a video to share their knowledge of road safety and to remind everyone to be safe and considerate to everyone in the community.
