The A47 was closed after a crash between a double-decker bus and a car.
The major road was shut as the vehicles were left blocking the road in Gorleston southbound from the Toby Carvery roundabout until the Hopton roundabout.
The incident was first reported 4.35pm as ambulance and police officers attended the scene.
Drivers saw long delays with traffic gridlocked near the James Pagett Hospital, as well as heavy traffic on the adjoining Links Road.
First Bus Great Yarmouth also saw delays and cancellations as services running were disrupted.
