A church in Great Yarmouth has installed some important equipment.

St Mary's Church has welcomed a new life-saving defibrillator from Heart 2 Heart Norfolk.

The donated machine marks the organisation's 300th defibrillator installation across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Discussions about the equipment began five years ago between Brian Lafferty, chairman of the church's finance committee, and Heart 2 Heart Norfolk's founder Jayne Biggs.

Despite some unexpected setbacks, a defibrillator is now available on church grounds.

Mr Lafferty said: "In the past, we've had medical emergencies where retrieving a defibrillator required a significant distance.

"Having this new defibrillator readily available gives us much more confidence, knowing every second counts in these situations."

Charity Heart 2 Heart Norfolk provided the defibrillator and cabinet, with Breckland Fabrications Ltd and Jorge Silva Carpentry joining forces to construct the housing frame.

Final assembly was completed by Jorge Silva Carpentry, while Bowers & Barr Ltd ensured that the electrics functioned correctly.

The new defibrillator is easily accessible for public use.

Registered with the National Defibrillator Network, when calling 999, the ambulance service will provide the cabinet's access code if required.
