A teacher from Gorleston has been honoured by Bear Grylls for his nearly two decades of dedication to scouting.

Jake Annison, 23, attended a celebration day parade at Windsor Castle on Sunday, where he was awarded the title of King's Scout. 

Beginning as a Beaver Scout at the age of six, Mr Annison progressed through the ranks before starting the King's Scout award at the age of 16.

"The most challenging section of the award was the expeditions," Mr Annison said. "We undertook our three-day practice expedition in the Peak District where it rained every day without fail. Our four-day final expedition took place in the Lake District where the rain luckily held off."

At the Windsor Castle Day of Celebration, Mr Annison joined the parade through the Quadrangle before shaking hands with chief scout Bear Grylls and the left lieutenant.

Mr Annison added: "Bear told me that I will remember this moment forever and I certainly will.

"Scouting has totally changed my life and unlocks doors to new opportunities for everyone, no matter your age."
