A bid to build 29 houses in Bradwell has come before planners again - but is facing objections from neighbours.

The scheme, submitted by Aldreds estate agents, would see the houses built on land east of Kings Drive.

The application was first submitted in September 2023 but was then withdrawn in April this year following the collapse of Lowestoft-based developers Wellington Construction.

An updated application was lodged to planners at Great Yarmouth Borough Council last month.

The plans include 26 houses that would be sold on the open market, and three flats categorised as affordable.

There would be seven two-bedroom, 12 three-bedroom and seven four-bedroom houses, as well as two one-bedroom flats and one two-bedroom flat.

So far, the proposal is facing seven objections from members of the public, with the main concern being "overdevelopment".

One resident who lives opposite the junction that will be used for cars to exit onto Kings Drive said they had "grave concerns" about the amount of properties and the increase in traffic.

"It is already a congested junction without the addition of more," they said.

Bradwell Parish Council is also objecting to the plans. 

A related bid to build 75 houses off Meadowland Drive was also withdrawn in April. That bid was likely to be rejected by the council - but planning officers had supported the plans for 29 houses.

At the time, the council said the landowner wanted to continue with the plans.

Villagers had previously opposed both developments, writing 97 letters of objection against them over fears they would lead to increased traffic and strain on public services.

Wellington Construction, one of the region's major building companies, ceased trading in November last year, leading to the loss of 51 jobs.
