A council has unveiled proposals for a revised housing allocation policy.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council is initiating a public consultation on housing due to increased demand and reduced availability for social housing in recent years.
An updated plan has been devised in order to manage expectations and ensure optimal utilisation of social housing.
Councillor Emma Flaxman-Taylor, Great Yarmouth Borough Council’s portfolio holder for housing, health and communities, said: ‘’Like all local authorities, Great Yarmouth Borough Council is facing growing demands for social housing.

"Given the limited supply of properties we have available it is essential we have a policy which makes the best possible use of the resources we have.
‘’We hope as many people as possible will engage with the consultation so we have a housing allocations policy that is fit for purpose and best serves the needs of everyone in the community.’’
Modifications suggested include tweaking the local connection residency qualification, introducing financial qualification thresholds for the Housing Register, and adding new strategies to promote efficient allocation and prevent homelessness.
