A landmark walkway which has been partially blocked for 12 years has finally reopened.

The White Lion Steps, which connect Cliff Hill and Beach Road in Gorleston, have been in a state of disrepair since a landslip in 2012.

In May this year, Norfolk County Council began repair work to the steps to open the footpath.

The area was originally due to reopen on September 6, and then on September 20, but the work was delayed.

Now it is finally completed. The work included anti-graffiti spray being applied.

Graham Plant, the county council's cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport and local councillor for the area said: “It’s been a long time coming but I am delighted to see these steps made safe and fully restored for public use once again.

"I would like to personally thank Colin and the Norfolk County Council bridges team for working diligently with all partners, residents, landowners and Great Yarmouth Borough Council to make this a reality.

"I would also like to thank the public for their continued patience and support during the build.”
