A surge in car thefts and rising reports of anti-social behaviour have sparked urgent calls for more police resources in one of Norfolk's largest villages.

Police were alerted to multiple vehicle break-ins on the morning of Wednesday, October 16, with thieves targeting cars in Pightle Close and Breeze Close in Bradwell, near Great Yarmouth.

Two cars on Pightle Close were ransacked, with a bag stolen from one, while items were also taken from a car in Breeze Close.

There was a further report shared on Facebook of a car broken into in Laurel Drive.

Carl Annison, borough councillor for Lothingland ward, condemned the "vile behaviour" and called for more police presence in the village.

"It's awful looking at items damaged on playgrounds, and being notified by residents that their property is continually being damaged or stolen," he said.

"I work with some great people to bring about good things for the area to just see them destroyed, it's simply disgusting behaviour."

Mr Annison has written to the head of Great Yarmouth police to demand more resources in Bradwell.

"I am saddened by the increase of incidents in our lovely village," he said.

He urged residents to report all issues to Norfolk Police, and if a crime is in progress to call 999 immediately.

"Sharing the issues can be helpful on social media, but you must also tell Norfolk Police.

"As one of your councillors I need your support in reporting crime so then I can argue the fact we need more police in the area," he added.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said that officers are waiting on more information from the victims and enquiries are ongoing.
