A Norfolk MP has accused a rival political party of "hypocrisy" after councillors attended a protest against comments he made in a controversial debate over gender ideology.
The Great Yarmouth and Waveney Pride group staged a demonstration outside Rupert Lowe's constituency office after they said he was "inciting hatred" against the LGBT+ community.
Mr Lowe, the Reform MP for Great Yarmouth, had claimed that the Progress Pride flag should not be used in council buildings or hospitals which resulted in a bitter row with the group.
The weekend's protest was attended by dozens, including Great Yarmouth Labour councillors.
It followed reports made by borough councillors that they had felt unsafe in the wake of remarks on social media by the Reform MP in a row over the authority's housing policy.
"sheer hypocrisy" for joining in with the protest outside his office.
The MP is now accusing the councillors who attended the peaceful protest on Saturday ofMr Lowe said: "If Labour councillors were so concerned about local politicians/residents feeling 'unsafe', was a protest, directly outside my constituency office, the best idea?
"Personally, I would not have done that.
"I have always been polite and respectful to Labour councillors in the area.
"It's a real shame that they chose to participate in a protest accusing me of 'hate' directly outside my constituency office.
"Look, I don't care. They can call me all the names under the sun.
"It's the sheer hypocrisy that bothers me."
